Observations and confessions

- After a government client meeting yesterday I passed the time waiting for the elevator by admiring a newfangled recycle bin (featuring 6 holes for different types of garbage). I was shoulder deep in the paper hole reaching for a National Post as the full elevator opened. "We obviously don't pay consultants enough!"
- A clerk at the coffee shop in the same government office lobby tried to charge me $1.60 plus tax for a sesame seed bar. "No way! That's a scam!" When I walked away I realized I'd never stood up against insane prices before -- and went to Second Cup to reward my new hard line with a $4 latté.
- Later the same day, Suzy asked me if I had ever shop-lifted. We shared stories. Those condoms I stole had expired by the time I needed them.
- There's something wonderful about two-storey stacks of tiny bags of potato chips packed in Hallowe'en cardboard boxes. So much packaging. So much fun!
- Devil's pitch forks and nativity scenes are mixing on the shelves. God bless holiday overlap.
- Jasper's hair-do reminded me of Stephen Harper's this morning. Definitely time for a cut.

Love me, pet me, eat me.
Jasper, Suzy and I visited Valleyview Farm today. It's a farm that doubles as a petting zoo and pumpkin joint on the outskirts of Ottawa. It's very folksy and homemade. The best parts for parents were the animal signs and the prerecorded audio for the puppet show. A couple of grumpy-looking teenage puppeteers had trouble keeping up the hand movements with the soundtrack. "Daddy, is the horsey sleeping?" Jasper liked the goats and fake cows.

"I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately, to front the essential facts of life and to see if I could learn what they had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
