Change of Seasons
- It's cold. The annuals are black after a heavy morning frost. Panicked
squirrels are packin' in the nuts.
- A whiff of skunk yesterday spirited me off to my PEI childhood. Someone
wanted to raise the furry critters on the tiny Island province for their
pelts. Then they let them escape into an environment with no natural
predators. Did you know that skunks stand on their front paws when they
spray? Show-offs!
- The Queen is on her way back to her country after a 12-day visit.
Apparently she can only smile like that for so long before her face
cramps up. God Save Her.
- All the Red Maples are bright orange, and the Silver Maples are red.
It's beautifully Canadian.
- Hockey is back to disrupt the 10PM News.
- Overheard this weekend: "Damn, I just raked that yard yesterday!"
- Tip: Check for slugs before bringing in the garden cushions. And,
locate for the rake before jumping into the leaves.

"I went to the woods
because I wanted to live deliberately, to front the essential facts of life
and to see if I could learn what they had to teach, and not, when I came
to die, discover that I had not lived."
